Switching from GoDaddy?

Why Massachusetts businesses leave GoDaddy.

Want the long version? What “managed” actually covers.

Why it matters here

Online isn’t the same as working.

Most hosts will tell you they monitor your site. What they usually mean is that something asks your server whether it’s awake. That misses the way WordPress actually breaks: the page still answers, it just isn’t your website any more.

A Cape shop’s checkout can stop taking orders, and a Boston firm’s site can serve a database error to every visitor while the server still answers politely. We find that within minutes, not when a client emails to ask what happened.

Checked every minute

Not every five. From more than one region, with confirmation re-checks so a blip never becomes a false alarm — confirmed downtime reaches you by email in about two minutes.

We read the page, not just the reply

A WordPress site with a database error answers a monitor with a normal “200 OK”. We recognise those failure screens by name, so a site that came back broken counts as down — and the alert says what we found.

How the checks work

On stores, we watch the buying path

Catalogue, products from the database, the cart and whether a payment method is still being offered, and the checkout page — every five minutes, read-only, with no test orders.

    inns, restaurants, and seasonal businesses

Not on the list? We serve all of Massachusetts — and the rest of New England. Also serving Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Boston.

Competitive search, unforgiving speed.

Massachusetts has the densest professional-services market in New England — law, healthcare, finance, consulting, and a deep bench of specialist firms across Greater Boston, Worcester, and the 495 belt. Nearly all of them compete for the same searches.

In that market page speed isn’t a vanity metric. It affects what Google shows and whether a prospective client waits for your site or backs out to the next result. Server-level caching and tuned PHP do more for that than any plugin — and they’re our job, not yours.

Speed is the part most owners underestimate. Server-level caching and tuned PHP do more for it than any plugin you can install, and both are our job rather than yours — which matters in a market where the next firm down the list is one back-button away.

The other half is not being quietly broken. A site that has thrown a certificate warning for a fortnight, or that has been down since a plugin update on Sunday, is costing you the enquiries you never hear about. Checks run every minute from more than one region, with confirmation re-checks so a blip never becomes a false alarm, and confirmed downtime reaches you by email in about two minutes.

Moving is the easy part

What moving off GoDaddy actually looks like.

It is free, we do it for you, and your site stays up the whole time. Here is the whole process, so “no downtime” is something you can check rather than something you have to take our word for.

  1. You send us a login, we do the rest

We take a full copy of the site — files, database, uploads, plugins, themes — and rebuild it on our servers. Nothing changes on your live site while this happens, and it keeps serving from your old host exactly as it did before.

  2. We check it before you see it

The copy runs on a private address first. We walk the pages that matter — the homepage, contact form, and on a store the catalogue, cart and checkout — and fix anything the move disturbed. Most sites need nothing; older ones sometimes need a plugin updated to work on a current PHP version.

  3. You look at it

You get the private link and check it yourself. This is the point to say “the fonts look wrong” or “that form goes to the wrong inbox”, and nothing is switched over until you are happy.

  4. We switch the domain over

One DNS change points your domain at the new copy. Both copies are live and identical through the changeover, so visitors reach a working site whichever one they land on — that is what “no downtime” actually means. SSL is issued and renewing before the switch, so no one meets a certificate warning.

  5. We watch it for you

Monitoring, nightly backups and updates start immediately. We keep an eye on the first days closely, because that is when anything the move missed shows up — and if something does, the backup from before the switch is one click away.

Most moves finish inside a day. A large store, or a site with something unusual bolted to it, can take longer — we will tell you which one you are before we start rather than after.

FAQ

Questions Massachusetts businesses ask.

Is Site Schema local to Massachusetts?
We’re a New England company based in East Greenwich, Rhode Island — about an hour from Boston and minutes from the Massachusetts line. A large share of our clients are Massachusetts businesses, and we’re happy to meet in person.
Can you move my website from GoDaddy?
Yes — migration is free and we handle it for you, with no downtime. Most moves from GoDaddy or another shared host are finished within a day.
How much does managed WordPress hosting cost?
Plans start at $25/month (Solo). Studio is $35 and Growth is $50/month for busier sites. Every plan includes nightly backups, free SSL, security, and real support.
What makes Site Schema better than GoDaddy or cheap hosting?
We fully manage your site — updates, backups, security, and speed — on servers that are not oversold, with real human support and no constant upsells. On cheap hosts, most of that is your job.
Do I need to be technical?
No. We handle the hosting and send you plain-language updates. You focus on your business.
Do you support online stores (WooCommerce)?
Yes. WooCommerce runs well on our stack, and hourly backups are available for stores that cannot lose an order.
Where are your servers?
In US data centers on the East Coast, so Massachusetts visitors get fast load times. Your site is monitored around the clock and backed up nightly to encrypted storage.
How much faster will my site actually be?
Honestly, it depends on what’s slowing it down. Server-level caching and tuned PHP fix the hosting half and usually make the largest single difference, particularly on sites that have been on cheap shared hosting for years. What we can’t fix by moving you is a page carrying eight megabytes of images or a stack of overlapping plugins — but we’ll tell you that’s the problem instead of quietly charging you more.
We’re competing against firms with much bigger marketing budgets. Does hosting matter?
It doesn’t win you the enquiry, but it loses it. A slow page, a certificate warning, or a contact form that stopped sending are all silent, and all of them cost you enquiries you never find out about. That’s the part we take off your desk — not the marketing, just the certainty that the site is working.
