Switching from GoDaddy?

Why Connecticut businesses leave GoDaddy.

Want the long version? What “managed” actually covers.

Why it matters here

Online isn’t the same as working.

Most hosts will tell you they monitor your site. What they usually mean is that something asks your server whether it’s awake. That misses the way WordPress actually breaks: the page still answers, it just isn’t your website any more.

A Hartford practice’s site can come back as a critical-error screen, and a Stamford store’s checkout can stop taking orders, both while the server answers every request. Our checks read the page itself, so “it looks fine to me” never becomes the diagnosis.

Checked every minute

Not every five. From more than one region, with confirmation re-checks so a blip never becomes a false alarm — confirmed downtime reaches you by email in about two minutes.

We read the page, not just the reply

A WordPress site with a database error answers a monitor with a normal “200 OK”. We recognise those failure screens by name, so a site that came back broken counts as down — and the alert says what we found.

How the checks work

On stores, we watch the buying path

Catalogue, products from the database, the cart and whether a payment method is still being offered, and the checkout page — every five minutes, read-only, with no test orders.

Where we work

Serving small businesses across Connecticut.

From our base in East Greenwich, RI, eastern Connecticut is minutes away and Hartford and New Haven are an easy drive. We work with businesses across the state and are glad to meet in person.

Not on the list? We serve all of Connecticut — and the rest of New England. Also serving Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine.

Where the site is the first impression.

Connecticut’s business base skews toward professional services and specialist manufacturing — firms in Hartford and New Haven, the finance and consulting belt through Fairfield County, healthcare practices, and long-established family manufacturers.

For most of them the website is a credibility document before it’s a sales channel. A site that throws a certificate warning, loads slowly, or has been quietly broken since the last plugin update costs more in lost trust than in lost clicks. Keeping it correct, current, and quick is what we take on.

When the site is a credibility document, the failures that hurt are the ones that look unprofessional rather than the ones that look broken. An expired certificate throwing a browser warning, a contact form that silently stopped sending, a page that takes six seconds — none of those announce themselves, and all of them cost enquiries you never hear about.

So the SSL is watched as well as issued, the checks read the page rather than the server’s reply, and the weekly summary says in plain English what’s healthy and what needs a look. You should not have to audit your own website to find out it has been quietly failing since a plugin update on Sunday.

Moving is the easy part

What moving off GoDaddy actually looks like.

It is free, we do it for you, and your site stays up the whole time. Here is the whole process, so “no downtime” is something you can check rather than something you have to take our word for.

  1. You send us a login, we do the rest

We take a full copy of the site — files, database, uploads, plugins, themes — and rebuild it on our servers. Nothing changes on your live site while this happens, and it keeps serving from your old host exactly as it did before.

  2. We check it before you see it

The copy runs on a private address first. We walk the pages that matter — the homepage, contact form, and on a store the catalogue, cart and checkout — and fix anything the move disturbed. Most sites need nothing; older ones sometimes need a plugin updated to work on a current PHP version.

  3. You look at it

You get the private link and check it yourself. This is the point to say “the fonts look wrong” or “that form goes to the wrong inbox”, and nothing is switched over until you are happy.

  4. We switch the domain over

One DNS change points your domain at the new copy. Both copies are live and identical through the changeover, so visitors reach a working site whichever one they land on — that is what “no downtime” actually means. SSL is issued and renewing before the switch, so no one meets a certificate warning.

  5. We watch it for you

Monitoring, nightly backups and updates start immediately. We keep an eye on the first days closely, because that is when anything the move missed shows up — and if something does, the backup from before the switch is one click away.

Most moves finish inside a day. A large store, or a site with something unusual bolted to it, can take longer — we will tell you which one you are before we start rather than after.

FAQ

Questions Connecticut businesses ask.

Is Site Schema local to Connecticut?
We’re a New England company based in East Greenwich, Rhode Island — minutes from the eastern Connecticut line and an easy drive to Hartford or New Haven. We work with businesses across the state and are happy to meet in person.
Can you move my website from GoDaddy?
Yes — migration is free and we handle it for you, with no downtime. Most moves from GoDaddy or another shared host are finished within a day.
How much does managed WordPress hosting cost?
Plans start at $25/month (Solo). Studio is $35 and Growth is $50/month for busier sites. Every plan includes nightly backups, free SSL, security, and real support.
What makes Site Schema better than GoDaddy or cheap hosting?
We fully manage your site — updates, backups, security, and speed — on servers that are not oversold, with real human support and no constant upsells. On cheap hosts, most of that is your job.
Do I need to be technical?
No. We handle the hosting and send you plain-language updates. You focus on your business.
Do you support online stores (WooCommerce)?
Yes. WooCommerce runs well on our stack, and hourly backups are available for stores that cannot lose an order.
Where are your servers?
In US data centers on the East Coast, so Connecticut visitors get fast load times. Your site is monitored around the clock and backed up nightly to encrypted storage.
Our site was built years ago by someone we’ve lost touch with. Can you take it on as-is?
Usually, yes — that’s a common starting point. We take a full copy, stand it up on our servers, and check it before anything changes. Older sites sometimes need a plugin or two updated to run on a current PHP version; we do that on the copy first, so if something needs a decision you see it on a private link rather than on your live site.
We’re a professional firm — how do we know the site isn’t quietly broken?
Because you get told. Checks run every minute from more than one region and read the page a visitor would see rather than trusting the server’s reply, so a page throwing a database error counts as down. SSL is watched as well as issued. And once a week you get a plain-English summary of what’s healthy and what needs a look — no dashboard to learn.
